Despite its Christian-related date, Sham El-Naseem is a holiday celebrated by Egyptians of all religions, [1] so it is considered a national festival, not a religious one. The main characteristics of the feast are:
Every day people spend their walks in the greenery, public parks, on the Nile or in the zoo.
The traditional food that is eaten on this day consists mainly of fesikh (salted gray mullet), lettuce, green onion, lupine and colored boiled eggs.
